Karen Thorne (host) and Anna Wilde (tutor) have been friends for twelve years.

A love of tech, dogs, food and knitting brings them together frequently where they can be seen haunting the eateries of Ludlow and the surrounding area. When they aren’t doing that, they converse via social media, email and text and share knitting war-stories.

karen_thorneKaren:

Prior to moving to Shropshire, we lived in Surrey ( though I come from Wordsley in the Black Country originally ) and worked for British Airways. I worked in the IT department for 16 years, with my main focus being on coaching, training and facilitating others.

In 2001 we started visiting Shopshire on a regular basis till it got to a point when Shropshire had become home and Egham somewhere where we worked. That, combined with our daughter’s imminent move to Secondary School, made up our minds to leave the South and head to one of the most beautiful counties in England.

I’ve rediscovered my love of knitting in the last few years and I am rapidly building up a yarn stash of mighty proportions.

anna_wildeAnna:

I’ve lived and worked in Shropshire for about 30 years now, and I’ve been a keen knitter, crotcheter and sewer all my life. My great-aunt taught me to knit when I was 9 and I’ve been doing it ever since. My day job as MD of my web and tech company PerfectArc keeps me busy and my knitting is a great way to unwind at the end of the day. When I was younger I was all about the finished object – or FO in knitting-speak – now I’m much more about the journey and love to learn new techniques and try different things.

I do a lot of training and workshops for people who want to learn about websites or Cloud computing so when Karen had the idea to host the WildThorn knitting workshops at Hopton House I was very excited indeed. Hopefully we can mix together all the things we enjoy and give you a day where you’ll have fun, learn a new skill and eat some delicious food in lovely surroundings.
